Costume Photo shoot w/ Ashley Stonehouse

A few weeks ago my friend and I set up an impromptu photo shoot with her Camera/Eye for photography & some of my Costumes/Makeup ideas. What came from a quick idea turned into an all day project of excitement. My studio looked like a mess by the end of it!!! Then again, all my work spaces and living spaces turn into a mess!!!! I guess creativity breeds disaster!

Back to Ashley... we met in High School through Cheer.... blah blah blah (go Rams!).. but have never worked together creatively before... She is much more prepared than I. I am a fly by the seat of my pants, figure it out, resourceful type and she is organized, plan out the day, bring snacks and props kind of gal. Though we are different, it worked fabulously. Where I suck, she picked up the slack. We scoped out places around my studio that would work a few days before and found some lovely girls to photograph.. (we did brides too but I will blog that at a later time and date. this is about HALLOWEEN!!!!) Here are the Girls, the Costumes, the Makeup & most importantly, the PHOTOS!!! I thought they turned out great!

Ashely went off with each girl while I was making up the next girl. I didn't get a chance to see what she her in action so I was elated when I got to see the photos. Here are some more shots of each girl. (please note: the Cowgirl and the Clown were also Airbrush Tanned by LML)

Dark Angel: Bree

Cowgirl: Katheryn

Clown: Brittany

After the sun went to bed we were done. Costumes Back on the rack and everyone back at home, Ashley and I quickly went through the photos and were very pleased! I really liked that they were artistic yet catalog appropriate. I really look forward to working with her more in the years to come.
It was a really fun day with all us girls!
Makeup+ Costumes+ a ton of glitter and a little Chardonnay= a great day to take pictures!

Ashley's Info
Ashelystonehouse@hotmail.com is her contact information. Do not hesitate to give her a call if you need some great x-mas card photos!!! we all know those are coming up quick!!!

13 Years Later... Makeup @ Homecoming

I entered high school in the fall of 1997 as a Millikan "Kidette". WOW!!!.. 13 years ago this September.... At Millikan High School in Long Beach. Millikan named their drill team the "Kidettes". With the Mascot being a Ram, "Kidettes" is quite a fitting name :)

I can remember being so excited for my first homecoming!!! High school is a truly once in a life time experience, just like anything you only get the chance to do once. (we are not going to go there with how fun college was hahahaha;) During 1997 homecoming we had wreaths in our hair and smiles on our face as we twirled our flags and danced in our really sexy, full soled, jazz shoes.. boy did I think this was awesome. Looking back the outfits were horrible the dance moves dorky but we did have was fun!

Sophomore year I was on JV cheer and Advanced Dance, Junior year Varsity Cheer and Advance Dance and senior year I was Varsity Cheer Captain and Advanced Dance Director...So I made my way up the ranks. After High School I went to LB State and was on the dance team there while coaching cheer and teaching dance part time at good Ole' Millikan High school. I even worked with the drama kids on the musicals.

So my point is ...13 years later I have come full circle.. I am doing a makeup job for the Kidettes of 2010!!!

I often head up an alumni dance for Varsity Cheer Alumni for homecoming so I get a chance to talk to the MHS Cheerleaders and get to know them every year but I never get the chance to work with the Drill team!!! Now I do!!!!!... So here is what went on..

Their theme for homecoming was "Under the Sea" so the colors were Teal and light Yellow.. I gathered my materials and did a little practice run on myself!!!
I only had an hour and a half to do 23 girls so I had to do a design that I could reproduce 23 times in under 4 min per Kidette. This was something I could do fast and would look good on every skin tone.Had to hold it up to see if it would work on the face :) Yep.. Looks good... so this is what I was going to go off of when I got to Millikan.

At Millikan all the girls were getting ready in Mrs. Wells Room. Mrs. Wells was on Cheer when I was a Kidette my freshman year at Millikan. I can remember her judging the cheer tryouts later that year (that was sooo scary:) So us alumni stick together and love supporting each other!

After setting up I started to "decorate" the girls......

23 Girls later....
I had to go practice with the other Cheer Alumni before the game so we could get our dance together for 1st quarter:) But I was really looking forward to seeing the Kidettes on the Field in a few! Here They are.. I know it is hard to see because they are so far out there.... but.......
They Did such an AMAZING job! Mrs. Wells has made such a huge difference!!!!! So much better then when I was a Kidette!!! I was soooo impressed. I almost cried!!! I am very nostalgic. Not only did they do awesome, they were the sweetest, most kind girls! So welcoming to me and so excited for Homecoming. They were all helping each other out with hair and makeup and so supportive of each other while practicing before the game!

Here are a few more of our getting ready pics!!!

Thanks so much girls for having LABEL ME LINDSAY be a part of your special day!!!! Homecoming 2010 will always be remembered!!

Thinking About Botox?

Long story short I have been a firm believer in Botox since is was introduced to it when I was 22. It has been great friendship the past five years between me and Mr. Tox. This picture speaks for itself ..... 22 years old (left) vs. 27 years old (right)

(I never thought I would be blogging about Label Me Lindsay's opinion on Botox so I tried to find pictures that looked somewhat similar. Photo on the Left was taken in 2005 and the Photo on the Right was Taken in 2010.)

Many Brides and clients of mine pick my brain on beauty tips and regimens they can follow to look youthful and more beautiful ..... BOTOX is a huge question that comes up with woman. And It is not just woman in their 40's and 50's....... Women in their 20's have definitely been more active in hunting down ways to prolong their youth!

Here is the deal... No matter how much cream I rub on my face, hydroxyacids I use for exfoliation, peels or galvanic facial treatments I get.... it is not going to change my forehead from wrinkled to smooth. I don't care what any anti-aging product commercials tell you that product is not botox in a Bottle.... IMPOSSIBLE.

I know that everyone has apprehensive about Botox BUT.... It is used for many other things in human bodies... It treats muscle spasms and other neurological disorders, hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating), Misaligned eyes and severe neck and back pain to name a few. So this crazy idea to shoot your face muscles with a toxin isn't just used for vanity.

I have had it done quite a number of times.. and not to diss any of the Doc's and RN's but dang sometimes I felt like a caveman forehead... Way too much!!! I couldn't lift my eyebrows for weeks!!! I totally had to cut bangs! It was awful! So not everyone you go to is going to make you look amazing...it is the injector that makes all the difference...Jan Maxson to the rescue!!! This RN has got it going on. Without Fail... No matter where she is working or who she is working on she hits it out of the park. And not just with the botox... These lips are all her (ok so ... maybe a little bit me too!!!! and the juvederm of course ;)).

So the point is.........
It isn't where you go it is who you go to see.

So Today I got my Laser Hair Removal and my BOTOX and I took some pics... check them out (they are only of the Botox I figured no one wants to see my laser treatment!! hahahaha)

Here is Jan....

Here comes the Botox

AHHHH!!!!.... it is TIME!!!!! (and yes I am letting you see me with NO MAKEUP!!!! that is scary all on its own! hahahah)

Alcohol on the forehead

Ready..... Set....... Go!!!

do that about 6 more times in different places and .....

We are done... No More than 5 minutes!!!

and your forehead, frown lines, crows feet... all of them.. gone (disclaimer.. it takes 3-10 days to kick in)!!!

And she has a great trick to raise the eyebrows... ask her about the silver bullets! Don't worry it really doesn't hurt that bad.. It is a tiny needle...so a little pain goes a long way (3-5 months to be exact). You will love it!

So I guess my long story short turned into a long story longer.. oh well..

If you are interested in any of this.. BOTOX, JUVEDERM, Laser Hair Removal, etc.. let Jan know give her a call she works at the Accetta Institute of Cosmetic Surgery In Huntington Beach.. Call her on her cell that way you get her and not a receptionist and she can answer your questions directly! (562) 595-2007. I like to share my tricks with my clients and readers that are interested so one day when you notice some new funny line you will know who can get rid of it!!!!

I honestly don't know what I am going to do one day when she retires since I will only let her touch my face!!! I already have anxiety.

So thanks to Jan... My forehead is smooth, lips are plumped (not too big of course), and my hair is gone!!!

Thank You JAN MAXSON RN!!!!! xoxoxoxoxo... oh and she is funny as heck!! Not only do you get a needle to the face you get a little dose of stand up!

My Favorite Mascara!!

Don't Spend $30+ on mascara. You are supposed to replace mascara at least once every 3 months if not more often. (I get new mascara once a month) Chanel Mascara is almost $50 a tube after Tax! What a rip off. If you replace that mascara every 3 months that is $200 per year!!!! Save the money and try......

Just go to your local Drug Store and go to the makeup section... Loreal Carbon Black Voluminous. I love, Love, LOVE it!!! It is a little over $7 online at rite aid... and sometimes they have it buy one get one free or buy one get one 1/2 off in store. I stock up when I see those deals! Just go try it and see if you like it too!!! Well worth the investment if you have been spending more at Nordies:)
