Costume Photo shoot w/ Ashley Stonehouse

A few weeks ago my friend and I set up an impromptu photo shoot with her Camera/Eye for photography & some of my Costumes/Makeup ideas. What came from a quick idea turned into an all day project of excitement. My studio looked like a mess by the end of it!!! Then again, all my work spaces and living spaces turn into a mess!!!! I guess creativity breeds disaster!

Back to Ashley... we met in High School through Cheer.... blah blah blah (go Rams!).. but have never worked together creatively before... She is much more prepared than I. I am a fly by the seat of my pants, figure it out, resourceful type and she is organized, plan out the day, bring snacks and props kind of gal. Though we are different, it worked fabulously. Where I suck, she picked up the slack. We scoped out places around my studio that would work a few days before and found some lovely girls to photograph.. (we did brides too but I will blog that at a later time and date. this is about HALLOWEEN!!!!) Here are the Girls, the Costumes, the Makeup & most importantly, the PHOTOS!!! I thought they turned out great!

Ashely went off with each girl while I was making up the next girl. I didn't get a chance to see what she her in action so I was elated when I got to see the photos. Here are some more shots of each girl. (please note: the Cowgirl and the Clown were also Airbrush Tanned by LML)

Dark Angel: Bree

Cowgirl: Katheryn

Clown: Brittany

After the sun went to bed we were done. Costumes Back on the rack and everyone back at home, Ashley and I quickly went through the photos and were very pleased! I really liked that they were artistic yet catalog appropriate. I really look forward to working with her more in the years to come.
It was a really fun day with all us girls!
Makeup+ Costumes+ a ton of glitter and a little Chardonnay= a great day to take pictures!

13 Years Later... Makeup @ Homecoming

I entered high school in the fall of 1997 as a Millikan "Kidette". WOW!!!.. 13 years ago this September.... At Millikan High School in Long Beach. Millikan named their drill team the "Kidettes". With the Mascot being a Ram, "Kidettes" is quite a fitting name :)

I can remember being so excited for my first homecoming!!! High school is a truly once in a life time experience, just like anything you only get the chance to do once. (we are not going to go there with how fun college was hahahaha;) During 1997 homecoming we had wreaths in our hair and smiles on our face as we twirled our flags and danced in our really sexy, full soled, jazz shoes.. boy did I think this was awesome. Looking back the outfits were horrible the dance moves dorky but we did have was fun!

Sophomore year I was on JV cheer and Advanced Dance, Junior year Varsity Cheer and Advance Dance and senior year I was Varsity Cheer Captain and Advanced Dance Director...So I made my way up the ranks. After High School I went to LB State and was on the dance team there while coaching cheer and teaching dance part time at good Ole' Millikan High school. I even worked with the drama kids on the musicals.

So my point is ...13 years later I have come full circle.. I am doing a makeup job for the Kidettes of 2010!!!

I often head up an alumni dance for Varsity Cheer Alumni for homecoming so I get a chance to talk to the MHS Cheerleaders and get to know them every year but I never get the chance to work with the Drill team!!! Now I do!!!!!... So here is what went on..

Their theme for homecoming was "Under the Sea" so the colors were Teal and light Yellow.. I gathered my materials and did a little practice run on myself!!!
I only had an hour and a half to do 23 girls so I had to do a design that I could reproduce 23 times in under 4 min per Kidette. This was something I could do fast and would look good on every skin tone.Had to hold it up to see if it would work on the face :) Yep.. Looks good... so this is what I was going to go off of when I got to Millikan.

At Millikan all the girls were getting ready in Mrs. Wells Room. Mrs. Wells was on Cheer when I was a Kidette my freshman year at Millikan. I can remember her judging the cheer tryouts later that year (that was sooo scary:) So us alumni stick together and love supporting each other!

After setting up I started to "decorate" the girls......

23 Girls later....
I had to go practice with the other Cheer Alumni before the game so we could get our dance together for 1st quarter:) But I was really looking forward to seeing the Kidettes on the Field in a few! Here They are.. I know it is hard to see because they are so far out there.... but.......
They Did such an AMAZING job! Mrs. Wells has made such a huge difference!!!!! So much better then when I was a Kidette!!! I was soooo impressed. I almost cried!!! I am very nostalgic. Not only did they do awesome, they were the sweetest, most kind girls! So welcoming to me and so excited for Homecoming. They were all helping each other out with hair and makeup and so supportive of each other while practicing before the game!

Here are a few more of our getting ready pics!!!

Thanks so much girls for having LABEL ME LINDSAY be a part of your special day!!!! Homecoming 2010 will always be remembered!!
