Smear Some Vaseline

What can Vaseline do for you? It seems to me like the world has forgotten about this very simple product that can be very useful!!!! You all have it in your cupboards or drawers somewhere... I know you do. Bust it out and put it to use! Before I share its beauty functions I would like to share a story with you all that I can't ever get out of my head when I think of Vaseline.

It was a long day at the dance studio when I was a young girl, probably about 6 years old. My mom was sitting peacefully watching my dance class..... when.... all of the sudden my dad comes rip-roaring into the dance studio with a look of panic and frustration on his face.

"Linda, you need to come outside immediately! We have a situation" he blurted out.

My mother followed him outside where he lead her to his car. There was my brother sitting there in the back seat of a 65 Mustang half naked on a towel with a seat belt strapped across his tummy .

My mom noticed something strange right away "Steve, why is Matthew Glistening?"

My Father couldn't even get out the right words to explain the situation. "I have bathed him numerous times with the same result......He is still SHINNY!!!!"

He went on to share that my brother, still in dippers, had opened up a giant jar of Vaseline, scooped out the entire jar and smeared it all over his head, body and THE CARPET!!!! Let's just say that my brother eventually got "un-shinny" but the carpet never recovered. For years there was an area rug strategically placed over the greased up area until the carpet was replaced years later.

So every time I think about Vaseline I think of that day when I was 6 years old.

But there are better stories with Vaseline that can make you look more beautiful on a daily basis.

From HEAD to TOE

1. Style your Locks: If you don't have gel or hairspray you can sub in Vaseline. Just rub a little in your finger tips and rummage it through your hair to sass up a new do. Make sure you don't use too much it could become a greasy tease in no time.

2. Manage your Brows: Instead of using brow gel you can use Vaseline to keep your brows in place. Just put a little on your finger or use a brow comb.

3. Magic Makeup Remover: if you don't have a way to get your makeup off at your boyfriends house because all he has is a soggy bar of zest in the shower... USE Vaseline!!! It works great to get your eye makeup off if you are in a bind.

4. The Obvious: Lip gloss. Vaseline can make you lips look shinny and keep them from becoming chapped during these colder months.

5. Sparkle Up Your Smile: Apply a tiny bit of Vaseline on your teeth. It will guarantee that your lips won't get stuck on dry teeth when you smile and it will give your enamel some extra sparkle. Beauty pageants contestants have used this trick for decades.

6. Soften Your Feet: After you take a cozy bath cover your heels and toes in Vaseline and put some thick socks on. In the AM you will be loving your soft piggys.

Let me know if there are any other ways you can use Vaseline to improve your looks.

Now go experiment!!!

I am SOOOO over eyeshadow!!!!

For this week at least;)

Because I do my makeup everyday I can get lazy and sloppy.... God's Honest truth!!! It pains me to admit this fact but I am a recovering "wear workout clothes everyday with no makeup so it looks like I just went to the gym" girl. If you have not heard It is was my New Years resolution in 2011 to wear a cute outfit and do my hair and makeup every day. Which I HAVE!!!! Wow the first New Years Resolution that I have ever kept.

Back to the lazy and sloppy part.... At least I am putting it on, right? When something is your job you kind of forget to do your job on yourself. Or, maybe it is just a ME-Specific problemo.

I had a brilliant idea yesterday... FORGET the EYESHADOW!!!! That is just an un-needed step in my getting ready process!!!!

I could save a couple of minutes a day getting ready if I just hid my eyeshadow pallettes. For this winter season I am skipping the shadow and letting the liner do all the work.

And... because I am horrible about not picking at eyelash extensions (which would be my first choice) I am going to put fake lashes on everyday. I am feeling the 60's vibe through my entire body and I am going to go with it.

Lots of Lashes.... Lots and Lots of Eyeliner and, of course, chiseled brows.

I am going to do that everyday, mark my words. For if I fail to follow through I hope all of you will call me out!

Dia De Los Muertos

This year for Halloween I had a number of clients request "Dia De Los Muertos" makeup. I have seen this Style of makeup but had not created this look myself. I figured it was time to do a little research on this Halloween Type Holiday to prepare for all these makeup jobs. I will share some of the information I found with you. Don't quote me on any of this..... I am not a Dia De Los Muertos Expert. hahahha

Dia De Los Muertos is translated to "The Day of the Dead" in English, for those who missed the bus in Spanish class :) It is a Mexican holiday lining up with the Catholic Holidays All Saints Day and All Souls Day that dates back hundreds of years. It is believed that the spirit of the dead come to visit their families on October 31st and leave on November 2nd. They see this as a celebration and a time to give offerings to the departed.
Some of the offerings include Mexican Marigolds, photos, food and beverages, crosses, skulls made of sugar and decorated with bright colors. The photo bellow is a refection of these sugar skulls that are used during this Holiday. Where as, the photo above is a more traditional Day of the Dead face painting.
Every culture has its own way of dealing with death, mourning and the afterlife. We have Halloween which is a fun way to see ghosts, goblins and ghouls. We go trick-or-treating and give candy away. It makes us think about death and scary things in a light hearted way.

Dia De Los Muertos is a bit more personal. Those who celebrate are remembering those that have passed and making joy out of death. It is a way of looking death in the face and saying "so what, it happens and we are going to party with it painted on our faces."

This was such a fun twist on the traditional Halloween Skull. I had a great time creating all of these faces!!! Thank you to Alli Mizu, Anna Mason, Heather Page and Sean Thomas for letting me turn you in to such scary, yet bright, skeleton heads!!!

A Very Dangerous Lady

Finding the Perfect Red Lipstick can be a very hard task. Do you look better in Red/Orange, Red/Blue or Orange/Red? and no one looks good in Blue/Red lipstick. I set out on a mission to find my favorite Red Lipstick.

I did a wedding for Danielle Perez and after everyone was ready I attended the wedding. I saw Natasha McGrail there and boy did she stand out!!!! What lipstick did she have on and how quick could I get my hands on it? She told me what it was and as the night went on I forgot completely what this awesome color was! Drat!!!!!
Fast forward to a couple of weekends ago. It was Nicole Hallan's wedding in San Diego. This was also a wedding attended after doing her up for her big day. I ran into a former CSULB Delta Gamma Sister.... Lauren Bojorquez. She, also, had some awesome red Lipstick on. The reason I liked it was because it was the perfect combination of Bright Red and Bright Orange. So I asked her "WHAT COLOR IS ON YOUR LIPS?" She answered, with a cat on the hunt look in her eye, "LADY DANGER".

THAT WAS IT!!!! That was the Lipstick Natasha was wearing!!!! Now I just had to buy it!!!!

So I did!

I have had some friends go buy it since I have gotten it!!! Go To MAC and Say you want some danger in life and get "Lady Danger"!!! It is a SHOWSTOPPER!!!

And When You do Post a Picture on the Wall of LABEL ME LINDSAY's fan page!!!!

"Get Ready For The Day"

My Mother has always been one to tell me............ "Just get ready for the day." When it comes to getting up getting dressed and feeling good about yourself she is the expert. Every single day of her life she has done her makeup and hair. I, on the other hand, have gone through phases of my life where I felt like getting up, getting workout clothes on (so when people see me they think: "Oh, she must have just gone to the gym!") and felt like crap when I would run into people. I made it my New Year's resolution this 2011 to get up, get dressed and get my glam on. I didn't think I would make it all the way to the end of September!!! wow It feels like second nature again! Man, 2010 had it slumps but 2011 had been a much more put together Lindsay.

I went to the source to talk to my readers about what it is like to always look your best. Linda Fleischmann has always inspired me :) In her own words.........

I can still remember my mother telling me in the sixties, "As long has you have a cute haircut and put on your makeup every morning, no matter how simple, it does not matter what your wear." It does not take money to have style and class. If you start each morning by getting yourself ready then even cleaning the house, the random someone stopping by or running into someone in the store who you haven't seen in 10 years will make you feel good. It only takes 15 minutes to slap some makeup on your face..you deserve it. I have never spent a lot of money on clothes. I was always told by my mother, Betty, that you should wear the clothes, the clothes should not wear you. I always seem to wear the classics solids and tailored clothes with fun costume jewelry but I always have on one special, signature piece that is real that always makes the costume jewelry look good "Real Good". I am not a makeup junkie so I use everything from MAC to Drug Store brands. what always makes me chuckle is when I go to a really fancy place, which is not often, I'm always complimented by so many people on how nice I look. It's never "I like your dress" or "your shoes are amazing" its just me, the overall package. With my hair done, make up done you can look like a million dollars without the money to back it up. Just start with YOU when you get up in the morning. Two steps..and they are nearly free..do your hair..put on your make up. I challenge you to not spend a penny and just work with what you already have..wear the smile that God gave you and you wear the clothes like you own it!!!

Oh..by the way always spray some perfume on in the morning after your makeup and hair even if your not going anywhere. Do it for yourself and for the unexpected!!!

if you make this a habit you never have to avoid anyone in the store again

Eyelahes + Spoon= ?????????????

What do Eyelashes.................
and a teaspoon...............
Have in common?

CURLY LASHES!!!!

Yes ........................ you can curl your lashes with a spoon!!!!

Sounds crazy, right?!?!??!!! The other day I had a client sitting in my studio getting her makeup done. When I grabbed my trusty eyelash curler she spoke up........... "You know what? My friend curls her eyelashes with a spoon! Can you believe that?"

WHAT!?!??!!?!?!?!? I was shocked.............. how had I lived 28 years, half of which was around beauty tricks and products, and didn't know about this?!?!?!?!

I did some research........ Watched a lot of YouTube videos and tested it out.

There were a few different techniques when it came to "Spoon Curling" (That is the term am calling it from now on hahhahaha)

This is what women used to do before our modern day eyelash curler.

You take the handle in the palm of your hand and face the bottom of the spoon toward your eye. This is the side of the spoon that will stick out towards you. This is not the concave side. The spoon acts as the top part of a typical eyelash curler. You extend your thumb directly underneath the spoon. Your thumb will act as the bottom, cushioned part of the curler.
Hold the spoon above your lashes and your thumb bellow. Move spoon right up against the root of your lashes.
Press your thumb up against the spoon for a couple seconds. This will cause your lashes to crease, flipping them up.

This is the step where some of the different "Spoon Curling" techniques differ. At this point you can press firmly and release or you can press down and pull up and out (like curling a ribbon with scissors) Just make sure you don't press too hard and pull out some of your lashes. One time on each eye is probably not going to be enough of a curl so you can work your way from the outside to the inside and repeat at desired.

I, personally, would do this before doing eyeshadow and mascara so they don't get messed up in the process. Some people choose to do it after. I would try it all different ways and see which way you like to "Spoon Curl". If you are doing the press and release method you might be able to get away with doing it after mascara. Just make sure you wait until the mascara is dry.

This may not replace the eyelash curler in my eyes (no pun intended) but in a pinch, if I can't find an eyelash curler, this is definitely a great substitution!!!! It makes me think of what our grandmothers might of done back in the day.

Try it out and let me know what you think. Make sure you do it with a metal teaspoon :)

If you want to see it done on video search on YouTube "curling eyelashes with a spoon" A lot of videos come up. Some of which the girls go on, and on, and on before they even do it!!! I was talking to the computer "JUST GET ON WITH IT! I Don't need you whole back story!" hahahahahaha

Good Luck Potential "Spoon Curlers'!!!!

While she was at LML she noticed I did makeup as well.............................. 6 Months Later ......................

Open your Eyes!!!!!

I have had women ask me randomly if I know how to perm eyelashes.... Well I can tint them, extend them, Curl them, adhere strip lashes and mascara them why not PERM them? I bought the kit from my supplier and had some brave souls who let me try out this new LML service... I applied a special type of glue to the lashes, and then carefully rolled them around a mini-curler.
I made sure the lashes were evenly distributed along the roller to ensure the best appearance. I instructed them to keep your eyes tightly closed while I applied the perm solution to the lashes.

The perming solution is left on your lashes for around 10 minutes, and is followed by the application of a neutralizer for about 10 more minutes. Then I gently removed the rollers using moist cotton.

Only one client told me there was a slight stinging sensation and everyone else said they didn't feel a thing. These are the results of my trial.....................

Client #1

Client #2
Client #3
Client #4
Client #5
Client #6
I think I have got it down! This is the coolest idea ever! The process takes a full 30-40 min, it lasts anywhere from 1-3 months and you don't have to mess with the eyelash curler. We all know that those things SUCK! So let me know if you have any questions and I will be happy to answer.

"the LML 18 Lady Bridal Party Challenge"

Meghan Dowlen is Engaged!! That was the exciting part :) I have known Meghan since my freshman year in high school. She is always the life of the party and the girl with tons of friends. That great character trait she has always had made everyone always feel included no matter who they were, where they came from or how well she knew them. What happens when the worlds most friendly grows up? She accumulates quite a number of close girlfriends. Then she gets engaged....... 14 bridesmaids later.......... a wedding happens. What a joyful experience for her 14 closest friends to be a part of her special day. Guess who else got to be a part of this epic celebration? Label Me Lindsay!!! So this is a little story of the day April 30th, 2011. A day, I know, I will NEVER forget.

My Day started Bright and EARLY at 2am. Yes, I do mean 2am. So, it wasn't bright at all. It was more like PITCH BLACK. The sound of that alarm meant I better get up and showered!!! Let's rewind before we get too ahead of ourselves.....................
Some time at the beginning of 2010 I saw Meghan Dowlen at the Blackboard Bistro (the restaurant I worked at for 7 years while figuring out everything from College Parties to my Career). She sat on the patio with her, then, fiance. I heard she had gotten engaged so I congratulated the happy couple. I had no Idea what I was to come :)................
A few months later Meghan came to my house (this is when I was doing waxing jobs on the couch hahahahha) and got her eyebrows done. She told me she was interested in hiring me for makeup and hair for her wedding coming up sometime in 2011. Apparently, there were a ton of bridesmaids hair and makeup that I would be doing. But not EVERYONE! Whew.... cuz 14 Bridesmaids + and bride + 2 moms + a flower girl= too many for LML to handle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!As the day got closer.......... the numbers got higher...... Now everyone was signed up for a little LML in their lives! That impossible idea of 18 people just became a reality. I got a little STRESSED...... Meghan never knew that of course. At this point I was hopping some of the girls would change their mind....................
We did a spray tan party two days before the wedding so we could get some gals tan........ I think the spray tans tapped out at around 10, give rather than take. A few brow waxes were thrown in the mix that night as well........................
So Friday rolled around and I had to make sure I had everything and pack it all up for Saturday. I had all day to do it; I wasn't stressed. Until...... My entire day booked up with clients. Back To Back... I was attending Meghan's Wedding so I needed to find a dress and spray tan myself (I am always last, without fail!). Thank God I had two great friends Erin and Sam go shopping for me. They picked out a bunch of dresses and outfits I might like so I could just run in to the store and try them on in the dressing room. AMAZING!!! The first one I tried on worked! Now that was out of the way I needed some items that were missing from my makeup kit for the next day. Erin went on a CVS/Rite Aid mission for me while I was finished packing and spray tanned my last client............After the madness of preparing for 18 hair and makeup I went home at 11pm and went to bed thinking of all the things I need to do when I woke up at 2am........................
I was up, In the shower, blow dried, left for my shop, spray tanned my self around 3am, did my own hair and makeup (just in case I ran out of time before the wedding), double checked my kit, and called my team to see if they were up. They arrived at 4am... bright eyed and bushy tailed! I can't do large parties without my LML Team!!! The Saturday of Meghan's Wedding my group included Michele Conradi, Lexi Holtz and Michele Whal. They are the best hair curlers in town and I couldn't have done it without them :) Since everyone arrived on time we had time to stop by 7eleven to give ourselves a java charge before our "18 Person Bridal Party Challenge". It was all fine and dandy UNTIL......................
We encountered the FREEWAY CONSTRUCTION PROBLEMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG I had heard something about the freeway construction on the 7th street ramp but I didn't know they were shutting down the 605 to 405 change, 405 south and 22 at night until 5am!!!!!! I freaked out! We had a line of three cars getting on and off the freeway more than 4 times following detours throughout Long Beach, Seal Beach, Garden Grove and Westminster.... It was a mess everyone was calling people to get directions and there was a million cars on the road also trying to find a way to the 405 s!!!! We made the decision to take PCH to the 55. We got to the Double Tree in Irvine a little late but I always plan extra time for these things.

We started the girls at 5:30am. Everyone started curling hair and I started on the makeup. We worked straight until 11:30. It was such a pleasant day. All the girls were chipper and so excited for Meg's Wedding! When 11:30 hit we had to change locations (this always makes me nervous because sometimes it takes a lot of time to pack up, move and unpack again.). So around 12pm we started up again. By this time all the curling was done and it was all about read lips and touch ups :) And remember there was also 2 Moms and a flower girl not pictured :) That is right about the time the photographer arrived..............
Let us take a moment with the photographer.... Lindsey Cahill is also a Millikan High School Alumni like much of the bridal party.... Meghan Dowlen, Sarah Duncan, Lindsay Dondero, Veronica Glover-Tolas, Marissa Simpson, Michele Weide-Gale and Jeni Nickoletich as well as 2 of my LML Team Michele Junghanel-Conradi and Lexi Holtz.

I have worked with Lindsey Cahill in the past and she does some amazing work!!!! www.lindseycahillphotography.com. I have dealt with a few photographers in my day and she definitely has a unique style of shooting. Sometimes photographers are in my face telling me what I need to to and how to do it. I forgot Lindsey was even there. I was almost was thinking did she take enough pictures? When I saw the moments she captured I was amazed! And I am sure you are as well. All of these shots are out of this world. The colors are vibrant, the locations chosen are breathtaking and every person in each one of the photos looks flawless. I take my hat off to Lindsey and would recommend her to any bride that came my way. She is so easy to work with and really revealed the essence of Meghan's Wedding through her photography. Such a pleasure to work with her! xoxo Lindsey your work speaks for itself!!!
My Job was done and as Lindsey was working with the Bridal Party I slipped into my dress, gave my hair a little poof, slapped on some extra lip gloss and sat with the rest of the guests. What happened next was what all this primping since 5:30 am was for... the ceremony

The Bride Walked down the isle, the vows began and the rest is history.............. Congrats Meghan and Casey Garrison there are going to be so many more happy moments in your future to add to this amazing day. Thank you for letting me be a part of it! Even if I was stressed out for months... the wedding went off without a hitch. It was so great catching up with all the gals too! xoxo to you all!
